Our work is based on the belief that everyone deserves equal respect. We don’t believe in discrimination, instead we celebrate differences. We strive to integrate persons living with disability into communities of their peers and broader Sri Lankan society

Vision

A society that fully recognizes and accepts the contribution of persons living with disability.

Mission

Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of persons living with disability, the Sunera Foundation facilitates their fullest integration into society.

Philosophy

Our work is based on the belief that everyone deserves equal respect. We don’t believe in discrimination. We celebrate difference. Through our work, we demonstrate how much those who are marginalized and stigmatized can actually contribute to society.

Our Key Features

workshops

Sunera works with over 1300 young disabled persons through 38 workshops island wide using the effective medium of the performing arts to achieve greater social integration for persons living with disability in Sri Lanka. By harnessing the therapeutic qualities of dance, music and drama, Sunera’s disabled participants are able to develop physically and mentally whilst finding out their various creative talents through the workshops. Conducted by 38 Trainers the workshop embraces every kind of disability, both male and female, barring race, religion and language. It creates a space of growth, healing, belonging, love and interaction for this marginalised community. ..

Theater Performances

The high point of the weekly workshops is our regular drama festival titled Samanalayaya during which all Sunera workshop participants perform in public before large audiences. Each workshop performs a play which is conceptualized, scripted and directed by the Sunera Trainer.

Fundraising Events

Sunera offers it's services free of charge to the disabled community in Sri Lanka. In order to sustain our work which spans over 18 years and has impacted the life of over 3000 young disabled people, fundraisers are held annually. The events have included a range of high end classical concerts, theater productions, musical shows, fashions shows, dinner theaters, sales and other events by our supporters and friends.
