Butterflies Theatre Company
Before the formation of Sunera, the Sunethra Bandaranaike Trust funded the first performance of Butterflies Will Always Fly in 1998. Cast members were selected from our workshops and disabled members of the armed-forces. This group of performers formed The Butterflies Theatre Company which went on to include internally displaced persons.
Under the Sunera Foundation they continued to work together to create and perform Flowers Will Always Bloom and Swinging Times – a Fairy Tale for Adults.
Butterflies Theatre Company – Second Wing
A series of five-day workshops were held in Tangalle, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Badulla and Hatton and a camp for disabled members of the armed-forces. From these workshops, 28 people, consisting of persons with disability and disabled members of the armed forces were selected to take part in an intense three-week residential training and rehearsal workshop.
These performers, who formed a new theatre group, drew on their personal experiences and talents to create and rehearse the drama, Turtles Will Never Fly, which resulted in the formation of the Butterflies Theatre Company - Second Wing.
