Tsunami Theatre Outreach Project

This project specifically targets children and young people in areas affected by the Tsunami.

T-TOP Galle (1)

The Tsunami Theatre Outreach Project (T-TOP) has taken on a life of its own and is shaping up to be an initiative that will see more than 21 new trainers employed, 40 new workshops started and most importantly over 1600 children participating in Sunera Foundation’s Tsunami Theatre Outreach Project. These weekly workshops have played a significant role as a therapeutic activity for those who have been traumatized by the tsunami.

T-TOP Galle (2)

Using our current workshop methodology as a base, our trainers have developed activities to be used in the Tsunami Theatre Outreach Workshops. Our workshops use a combination of drama, movement, dance, puppetry, mime and song which, most importantly, have been tailored to the specific needs of each community.

Districts we are working in

Sunera Foundation has undertaken sustainable work in six of the worst Tsunami affected areas - Galle , Ampara, Trincomalee, Hambantota, Jaffna and Matara. Our work in these areas will continue until March 2008.

Our supporters

An exciting and innovative project such as this would not have been possible without support from many friends and supporters. Funds were generously given by The Deutsche Bank, The East-West Centre in Hawaii, Siege Social Jules, American Jewish Joint Distribution Centre, Global Fund for Children and Force of Nation Aid Foundation, for their commitment to the long-term needs of young people in Sri Lanka affected by the Tsunami.

The Tsunami Theatre Outreach Project (T-TOP) has been functioning in all six districts and are being conducted by 21 trainers since August 2005.
