Samanalayaya – Annual Festival
Once a year, each workshop presents a short performance, scripted and directed by the workshop trainers. This gives all the participants an opportunity to shine.
This collection of theatrical pieces titled “Samanalayaya”, is performed in many parts of the country, and attended by the general public. This serves two purposes:
- Develop the creative talents of the workshop participants whose self confidence is strengthened by performing for the public
- Raise public awareness of the talents and abilities of these young people
These performances are a colourful celebration of our differences and common humanity.
Samanalayaya Drama Festival 2018
The high point of the Sunera training activities is the Samanalayaya Drama Festival during which all Sunera workshop participants showcase their talents by performing in public before large audiences. This year too, participants from 29 workshops took the stage with short plays, scripted and directed by our trainers which gave every one of the participants an opportunity to play diverse roles and shine. Running over a period of two months the regional performances were recently concluded after 19 performances in 10 districts. The events were enjoyed by the large audiences present. Congratulations to the four best performances from the Kurunegala, Katugastota, Palugaswewa and Weligama who will perform at the Grand Finale on the 16th of May 2018 at the Lionel Wendt Memorial Theatre Colombo.
