Those of you who had the opportunity to enjoy “An Inspired Swan Lake” in October 2009, which Sunera performed in collaborationwith Jehan Aloysius and Centrestage Productions, will know it is a production not to be missed.

We are pleased to inform you that Jehan Aloysius is presenting Swan Lake once again, at the Lionel Wendt on 5, 6 and 7 of March 2010.

Sunera commences new workshop in Kandy

The Rotary Club of Kandy partnered with us to start a Sunera workshop in the Kandy town on 23 February. Approximately 20 participants attended the inaugural workshop.

We wish to extend our gratitude to Mrs. Ayesha Imbuldeniya Wijeratne and her team at the Kandy Rotary Club for supporting our work.

New workshops in the East!

We are pleased to have started two new workshops in Thirukovil and Kalmunai on 13 February with the support of the Swiss INGO, Terres Des Hommes. The inaugural workshops proved to be a success as they were well attended, and appreciated thanks to the successful activities conducted by our PDOs, Chathuranga and Sandun.

We wish to extend our gratitude to the local government official for the Kalmunai Tamil Division Mr. Victor de Alwis, General Manager for Human Link Mr. A Kamardeen, Deputy Principal for Wesley High School in Kalmunai Mr S. Jewellery making workshop a success!

The participants and mothers of our Panadura workshop enjoyed a change during their regular workshop, on Friday 8th January.

Singapore based jewellery designer, Rashantha Devanesan conducted a jewelry making workshop, during which participants and mothers enjoyed putting together their own creations from colourful beads and accessories that we had provided for them.

Whilst the children had great fun, the mothers saw the exercise as extremely relaxing and therapeutic.

Susila, one of the mothers said, “this was such a wonderful experience. We hope we have more inputs like this soon”.

New Year Celebrations

Three of the Sunera workshops held events to ring in the festive period.

The Galle District workshops held their celebrations on 2nd January 2010, during which workshop participants and their parents enjoyed refreshments together.

Again, on 2 January, the Dehiwela workshop held an alms - giving ceremony which was attended by workshop participants and their parents.

Finally, the Horogolla workshop held their celebrations on 3rd January, during which there were 2 performances followed by lunch.

We wish all our workshop trainers and participants a peaceful, healthy and joyous new year.

Sunera to perform at awards evening

The Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka holds an annual awards night to recognise coroporates who have made a significant impact through their corporate social responsibility programmes.

This year, the event is happening on 12 December at the Cinnamon Lakeside.

Sunera is proud to have been invited to perform at this event. We will be performing an excerpt from our recent production, “An Inspired Swan Lake”, for this glittering evening.

We thank the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce for inviting us to be part of the evening.

Plantation workshops to celebrate Christmas

The 9 workshops we conduct in Hatton and Maskeliya are coming together on 12 December 2009 at the St. Johns Delary Wedding Hall in Kew Estate to celebrate the festive season.

Two hundred workshop particpants and their families will be attending the event, which will be precided over by Santa and will have fun, games and activities.

We hope they have a wonderful time!

Sunera Trainers perform for the British Council

British Director and Playwrite, William Scott Richards was recently in Sri Lanka, directing and producing a play for the British Council in Colombo. This play, which consisted of short scenes from larger productions, was performed at Westminster House on 4 November 2009, and at the British Council on the 6th of November.

Two of Sunera’s hearing and speech impaired trainers, Indika and Chatura, auditioned for parts in this production and we are please to say that they got in and did a fabulous job.

Congratulations to them, William and the British Council for a great production!
