September 21st, 2011 — Events, Plantations Project
A drama festival was held on the 7th of May in Hatton for Sunera workshop members in nine workshops in the region; Stoneycliff, Batalgalla, Kew, Kotiyagala, Glentilt, Robghill, Yullifield, Gouravil and Welioya Estates. The programme featured four dramas and six dance acts. The dramas were directed by the well known theatre personality, Richard Manamudali.
From the feedback received, it was clear that there was much interest among not just the parents of the participants but also the people in the area, about Sunera’s work with the differently abled.

March 10th, 2011 — Pages, Plantations Project

Three new workshops opened in Nawalapitiya at the Westhall School in Nawalapitiya on 9 March 2011. The Chairperson, Executive Director and Communications officer along with the Managers of Kahawatte Plantations, which is part of the MJF Group were present at the inauguration.Over 70 children from the area will be attending the workshops and we are thankful to the MJF Foundation for partnering with us on this project.
March 8th, 2011 — Plantations Project
The nine workshops in the plantation sector: Stoneycliff Estate, Batalgalla Estate, Kew Estate, Kotiyagala Estate, Glentilt Estate, Robhill Estate, Yuillifield Estate, Gouravila Estate and Welioya Estate will be staging four dramas on May 7, 2011 in Hatton.
Rehearsals for the plays are currently being held under the watchful eye of the well known theatre personality Richard Manamudali. A number of song and dance items will also be performed.

March 8th, 2011 — Plantations Project
A few changes were made to the workshops that are a part of the Plantations Project. The new workshops are as follows:

February 24th, 2011 — Pages, Plantations Project, Workshops
Maharagama
A programme which consisted of song, dance and drama was held for Christmas at the Sudharmarama Temple in Maharagama on December 9, 2010 and was organised by the Parent’s Association of the Maharagama Sunera Workshop.
Maskeliya
Christmas carols were held at the Glentilt Estate staff clubhouse in Maskeliya on December 21, 2010. It was conducted by the Glentilt Sunera Workshop.

Negombo
The workshops in Negombo and Horagolla collaborated to host a programme for Christmas at the YMCA in Negombo on December 18, 2010, organised by the Parent’s Association of the Negombo and Horagolla Workshops.
November 16th, 2010 — Plantations Project

In appreciation of our work in the plantation sector, the Government of India donated Sunera Foundation with a 17-seater TATA bus.
The bus will be used on a daily basis, to transport young persons with disabilities to and from the 30 estates, to the nine workshop locations in the Hatton and Maskeliya areas.
November 16th, 2010 — Plantations Project
A raffle draw was held on October 31 to coincide with Deepavali, to raise funds to continue the activities in the nine workshops in the Hatton and Maskeliya areas.
The draw was held at the Darawala Planters Club in Dickoya and was quite a success with a number of well wishers and friends having donated gifts to the winners.
August 18th, 2009 — Events, Plantations Project
On 15th August 2009, Theatre and TV personality, Richard Manamudali, provided training to the Trainers of our Galle workshops. Two trainers and two helpers received inputs on how best to organize and conduct an effective and fruitful workshops. This one day workshop was well received by the trainers.
July 1st, 2009 — Events, Plantations Project
Television and Theatre personality, Richard Manamudali, gave the benefits of his performance experience to our Plantation sector workshops.
On 13th June, he visited the Yuillefield workshop and observed the activities there. Based on what he saw and gleaned, he conducted a workshop for all 9 of our trainers in this region on 14th June.
He gave them inputs on how to work with disabled youth, how to be sensitive to disability without being patronising, how to incorporate constructive activities into their weekly workshops and other aspects of theatre and performance.
We wish to thank Richard for his time and valuable inputs and look forward to working with him again in the future.
March 9th, 2009 — Events, Plantations Project
It has been a busy time for the Plantation sector workshop trainers and participants, who, for the last 3 months have been rehearsing for their street theatre performances, which took place on the 28th of February and 1st of March 2009.
The performance on 28 February took place in Kotagala Town and consisted of participants from the Yuillefield, Kotagala, and Maddekumbura workshops.
The 40 strong cast performed a drama titled “Disabled Persons Are Human too”.
The morning performance on 1st March 2009 took place in the Bogawanthalawa town centre.
The 60 strong cast consisted of participants and trainers from the Kotiyagala, St. John Delary, Gowrawila and Glentiltl workshops performed a drama entitled “Save The Environment”.
The afternoon performance on the 1st of March 2009 in the Hatton Town Centre entitled “New Opportunities For Disabled Persons” was performed by a cast of 60.
All performances were attended by audiences of about 200.
During a discussion on 6th March, Sunera Trustee, Azira Esufally said, “the performances created awareness of disability issues in that area. Though the performances were not polished, they were beneficial to the participants and community alike. The goal of creating awareness was certainly achieved.”
During a chat on 4th March 2009, with the Assistant Field Manager, John Philip said “the performances were a success judging by the crowds that gathered. It is also the first time we have done such a thing in the plantations region”.
